The Three-Mile Walk
The Conflict (The Problem): Every morning before the sun rises in rural Kenya, the women of the community begin a journey. They don't walk for exercise; they walk for survival. For families in these drylands, "water" means a three-mile trek to a disease-infested swamp or a putrid river. Children often miss school because they are either too weak from waterborne illnesses like typhoid or too busy helping their mothers carry heavy jerrycans.
The Turning Point (The Solution): Living Wells of Hope Africa, led by Rev. Simon Mwanza, identifies these "thirsty" communities. With a Pro-plan-supported website and a global network of donors, we bring in the heavy machinery—the borehole drills. We don't just "give" a project; we partner with the village to install a solar-powered, sustainable well that will flow for twenty years, not just twenty days.
The Resolution (The Impact): The day the water strikes is a day of "loud joy." Now, the three-mile walk is replaced by a thirty-second walk to a clean tap. Girls are back in the classroom. Mothers are starting small gardens to feed their families because they finally have the time and the resources. A single well doesn't just provide water; it provides a future.
